When You Can't Wait

Couch removal vs council hard rubbish

Council hard waste is a great option if you have time. When you're moving out, the new couch is arriving Friday, or you simply can't lift it - that's where we come in.

Couch Disposal

Where your old couch goes - not straight to landfill

Sofas are bulky and slow to break down, so we try to keep as many as possible out of landfill.

Reuse & donation - couches in good, clean condition are passed on where practical.

Recycling - timber frames, metal springs and mechanisms are separated where possible.

Responsible disposal - whatever's left goes to licensed facilities, never dumped.

Your Options

How to get rid of an old couch in Melbourne

There's more than one way to get rid of a couch. Here's an honest look at each, so you can pick the one that suits your timing, budget and back.

1. Sell it or give it away

If it's in good shape, Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree or a local Buy Nothing group can find it a new home. The catch: you're waiting on someone else's schedule, and you'll usually still need to help get it out the door.

2. Donate it to charity

Charities generally only accept couches that are clean, undamaged and free of stains, rips and pet hair. Many don't offer pickups, so you'll need a way to transport it.

3. Book council hard rubbish

Often the cheapest option if your property is eligible - but bookings are limited, can be weeks away, and you have to carry the couch to the nature strip yourself.

4. Take it to the tip

Transfer stations accept couches for a fee. You'll need a ute or trailer, a second pair of hands, and time on a weekend.

5. Book a couch removal service

The quickest and easiest option. A team like ours lifts the couch from wherever it is, loads it, and handles donation, recycling or disposal for you. WhatsApp us a photo or call 0432 277 064 for a free couch removal quote.

Questions

Couch removal FAQs

How much does couch removal cost in Melbourne?

It depends on the size of the couch, how many items you're getting rid of and how easy it is to reach. Send us a photo by WhatsApp or the form and we'll give you a quote before we book - the price we quote is the price you pay.

Do I need to move the couch outside first?

No. Our team lifts it from wherever it is - lounge room, upstairs bedroom, apartment, garage or balcony - and carries it out to the truck.

Can you take a sofa bed or recliner?

Yes. We remove sofa beds, electric and manual recliners, modular and L-shaped lounges, chaises, armchairs and ottomans.

What happens to my old couch?

Couches in good condition are passed on for reuse or donation where practical. Materials that can be recycled are separated, and the rest is disposed of responsibly at licensed facilities.

How quickly can you pick it up?

We work 7 days a week and can often collect within the same week, depending on your suburb and our schedule. Call us on 0432 277 064 to check the next available time.

Can you take other items at the same time?

Yes. Mattresses, bed frames, tables, appliances, boxes and general household rubbish can all go in the same load, which is usually better value than separate pickups.

Do I need to be home for the pickup?

Not always. If the couch is somewhere we can access - a garage, carport or front of the property - we can arrange a pickup while you're out.

Can I put my couch out for council hard rubbish?

Usually, if your council offers hard waste collection and your property is eligible. Collections are limited each year, need booking in advance, and you have to place the couch on the nature strip yourself. A couch removal service is the faster option when you need it gone now or can't move it yourself.

Will a charity take my old couch?

Some will, but most charities only accept couches that are clean, undamaged and free of stains, rips and pet hair, and many no longer collect. If your couch isn't in donation condition, a couch removal service can take it and recycle the parts that can be recycled.
